"No mere mer"

Films: The Lure (2015)

Alias: Golden and Silver, Triton

Type: Mystical

Location: Ocean/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: That of average humans.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: We already touched on voracious mermaids during this decade, but out of all of them, this tale stands out the most. If only because the sea sirens are on the more sympathetic side of things. It's a tale of glam rock, romance, and bloodshed.

History: Golden and Silver are a couple of mermaid sisters who enjoy luring people to their doom with their singing. Then one day, they decide to spice things up by joining a rock band as backup singers/strippers. They even get their own gig in the form of The Lure. But then things get complicated when Silver falls for the bassist, for if he doesn't love her back, she will be reduced to sea foam. The sacrifices will indeed be dire.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After Silver replaces her lower half with human legs, she is still rejected, yet she cannot bring herself to kill him in order to break the curse. She dissipates into sea foam, and Golden, after killing the man in a fit of grief, leaves for the ocean.

Powers/Abilities: Mermaids can change their form into human look-alikes to traverse over water.

Weakness: If the one a mermaid loves marries another, they will be turned into sea foam. Likewise, if they remove their tails, they will lose their voice. Conventional means also hurt them.

Scariness Factor: 3-Here we have some typical mermaids who love to get gory. But what keeps them from being scarier than that is their clear desire for love and passion, as well as forms that are attractive than scary. A shame about how tragic their weaknesses are.

Trivia: -This film is a loose adaptation of "The Little Mermaid". As in, the original Hans Christian Andersen book, which the Disney movie was only loosely based on. That one also ended with a mermaid dissolving into sea foam, though at least she was offered the chance to get a soul...if she keeps doing good deeds as a spirit for three centuries.

-This film's director, Agnieszka Smoczynska, based a lot of the story on her childhood, in which her mother ran a nightclub, where the young girl had many of her first clashes with sexual disappointment, love, and debauchery. The mermaids helped make it not too obvious that it was about her old life at times.

Nice hiding spot. Try the fridge next time.

Family is family, after all.
The mire of man's own making.

Looks you can trust...right up until the awful truth.

Cravings are nothing to scoff at.
"Get me a huge salt shaker!"

Lovely contrast, right? If you're Dr. Giggles, yes.
